Go Local

My cousin Heather started a challenge of eating one meal a week that is made from all local foods. Even though I am not very creative when it comes to cooking I thought I would give it a try. I found it was actually a little depressing to shop for food. Nothing is growing much around here due to the very unsummery weather that we have been having. Anywhere here was our dinner tonight, humble as it is.
Mixed greens salad. And no the tomatoes were not local, but I can't resist inexpensive cherry tomatoes. They were organic, and they tasted so much better for it. Also the salad dressing and croƻtons that we put on were not local.
Asparagus. I never ate this vegetable growing up. I recently discovered it and decided that I love it.
Potatoes, onions, garlic, and rosemary all baked together. Mmm, tasty. Almost everything was bought at Joe's Garden behind our house. Nice and convenient. And fun to think that we got to watch that food grow.

It my search around town today I discovered several Famer's Markets type places that I had never been to. In addition to the local food that I found at Joe's several of these places trade with other markets to sell produce really cheap. It was fun to look around and get ideas! It isn't too late to join the challenge if you are interested.

Way to go, Lauriel!! That's a great first meal!

I will post your entry on my round up for week 2. That post goes up next Wed.

Good luck for the future, and great job for the first meal. How cool to watch your food growing. Very cool.
