Andrew's Recital

Just a reminder for any of you who are close, Andrew's junior recital is coming up soon! It is April 16th at 5pm. The concert will be at Western and will be over an hour of just him playing! He has been working for a long time on this and it will be really amazing. Let me know if you are planning on coming, we would love to have you!

Birthday Dinner

I share my birthday weekend with my good friend Emily. Her birthday is the 7th of March and mine is the 8th. And even though we were spending a great deal of time together (we had all of our classes and worked exactly the same hours) we get a long great. We decided to have a low-key birthday dinner because every one we knew was sick and because we were going crazy with all of our homework.
Evidence #1: Sick Katie
Evidence #2: Sick Andrew
Evidence #3: Sick Jordan
This is where Andrew spent most of the evening. I don't blame him one bit with the kind of temperature he was running.

The rest of us enjoyed a relaxing evening with delicious homemade Mexican food; fajita style burritos, chips, salsa, and of course guacamole.
Emily and I ate first
Chrissy made us delicious birthday cupcakes (rainbow chip); labeled of course so that everyone knew whose birthday they were celebrating when they ate one.

Thanks to all the sickies who were willing to come celebrate and have dinner with us. We managed to get a picture of most of the group. Andrew stayed on the couch, Chelsea is taking the picture, and I don't know where Ryan ran off too.

Final Block Girls

For the next little bit you may be finding out about what I've been doing for the past 6 months. I am hoping to have some time to go through my pictures and I will share some of my favorites.

My last quarter of classes (the one I just finished) is affectionately called Final Block (said with a certain amount of dread) by those in the department. You have 5 classes with all of the same people and it is really busy. Not terribly hard or new material, just putting everything together that we have learned in the past two years. And applying it. And rationalizing it. Way more work than you would ever try to do when you were actually teaching. Needless to say, by the end of the quarter, you either love or hate the group that you are with.

Luckily, we all got along really well together! We were friendly and supportive but not so close that there were hurt feelings and gossiping. After the end of the quarter we all went out for Mexican food to celebrate. Here is a picture of all of us.Starting with the front left and moving clockwise: Chloe, Emily, Traci, Laura, Me, Kailyn, and Emily. I will miss having a group of supportive peers!

Scattered Update

Warning: This is long...

So I am apologizing in advance because this post may be very scattered, I am trying to do too many things at once. But it has been way too long since I have posted and people are asking questions! I can't leave posting on the to-do list any more.

I am sorry about the sudden change in making my blog private. It is time for me to start looking for jobs and as such, I went to a career fair last week. It was great, but I got a good piece of advice from several HR directors, google your name and see what comes up. They said that when they have a lot of applicants, they will first go through the paperwork, pull out the likely candidates, and then google those people to see if there are any applicants they can rule out based on info or pictures that come up. So I went home and googled myself, SCARY! Nothing bad came up, but just too much information about my personal life and too many pictures, I felt like they would know all about me before I even met them! So I changed our blog to private to fix that.

I am planning my first ever baby shower for a friend, it is on April 18th. If you have any great game ideas, please share them with me! Here is a picture of the invitations below, one of the many things that I am currently working on while writing this post. Let me just tell you, printing on 3x5 sheets of vellum is not easy. I only smeared one piece, yay!
I had my senior presentation for my coursework on March 11th, it was nerve wracking but it went really well. My mom and Emma came up to support me and to keep me from being too nervous, which was great. So I have been done with my classes since the 11th, but I had A LOT of work to do to finish up with my job up on campus. Teaching classes, writing finals, giving finals, and grading finals seemed to consume my life for a week. I wrapped everything up with that on the 18th, which was VERY nice. And I am officially done up there. No more classes and no more work. I still have to do my student teaching and write my thesis, but I am feeling rather done with my master's at this moment.

My birthday was on the 8th, which happened to be a very crazy weekend for both work and school. And Andrew had the flu, which was a lot of fun. But I did have a birthday dinner celebration with my friend Emily (her birthday is the 7th) and a few of our friends. It ended up being a nice weekend at home for the most part, which was just what I needed. And I received lots of birthday cards, phone calls, wishes, and money. Thank you everyone! Because I was so distracted and I couldn't think of any birthday gift ideas, I received lots of money and gift cards. This was perfect because, due to my recent weightloss, I need a whole new wardrobe. And I needed some more professional attire.

In all I ended up with 340$ cash, 20$ at Village Books, and 60$ at Gap. I know a lot of you had doubts that I would end up spending it all on myself, for birthday gifts so I took presents as proof. Here are my purchases so far...

This book is amazing, its hilarious and educational all at the same time. And you can listen to Lemony Snicket narrate, which is always fun. You should all check it out.

As you can tell, I need to lay off the blue shirts for a while. I still have 160$ and 50$ in Gap gift cards left, so more pictures coming soon.

I took pants to the tailor for the first time ever today. Andrew and I were going to hem the together, but at the last minute we both chickened out because we were worried that we were going to ruin them. I don't know why I have never been to the tailor before, 8$ for a pair of pants and I can get them back tomorrow. Totally worth it. Until I learn to do it myself.

I start my student teaching tomorrow, at an elementary school in Ferndale, about 15 minutes from here. I will be in a resource room that serves K-6 grades. I really like my teacher and I am really excited yet a little bit nervous at the same time. I'm sure I will be sharing more on that!

I will try and keep you all posted more often and as I get pictures from the last little while I will be sure to share them all!

Going Private

A better update is coming, and soon. But I am going to be applying for jobs shortly and would like to make my blog private so that my future (hopefully) employers can't read all about me before they even meet me. Leave me a comment or send me an email if you would like to keep reading when I start posting again.
