Tulip Festival

A couple of weeks ago, Rachelle and Taylor came up to visit from Utah for a few days. They were busy and we were busy but we did find time on Sunday afternoon to meet at the Tulip Festival and spend a few hours together. We spent some good quality time walking around and looking at flowers, it was so good to see Rachelle and Taylor! For some reason I didn't get any pictures of them though, sorry guys!

These are some funny looking tulips!

Andrew and I looking a little bit windblown.
The color is just amazing when there are so many of them!
Another tulip close up, Rachelle took this picture, isn't it pretty?
Andrew looks like he is having so much fun.
Pretty purple.
Andrew lagging behind to take pictures. He was taking Polaroids, maybe I will get energetic and scan them in to share. Maybe!

New Goals

Here is the plan for this week:

1) Type 5 recipes for my mom.

2) Blog about the Tulip festival, our plants, our fish tanks, and the last 2 No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency Books.

3) Run at least 3 days this week.

4) Plant strawberries.

5) Figure out what I need to recover our kitchen chairs.

6) Get application materials for at least 3 school districts ready.

7) Enjoy the sun!

Recap the last TWO weeks!

So I haven't been very good about my weekly check-in, things got a little bit hectic in the last two weeks. Here are a few of the highlights:

We met Rachelle and Taylor for a few hours at the Tulip festival. The flowers were beautiful and it was wonderful to see them. I wish they lived closer! Pictures will be coming as soon as Rachelle sends me hers (my batteries died half-way through the day!)

Andrew had another Pan Pan show at Jinx Art Space, it went really well! There are no more shows scheduled for right now, I will keep you posted though.

I had my student teaching mid-term evaluation which went really well, but I am very glad to have it over with.

I completely finished my sub portfolio, turned it in, and got approved. I substitute teach the first time this coming Friday. Some extra money will be nice!

Andrew and a small Jazz Combo played for a private Western Event in Seattle and got paid, that is always nice.

I am still reading the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency Books, I am on #4 right now, and I still love them.

I have been student teaching full-time, all day long, everyday for two weeks now, and it is going well. I am not as tired as I thought I would be!

Andrew played with the Western Brass Quintet last night for the Composers of Western Concert.

I have been doing a little bit of planting on the deck, I will post pictures of that soon.

Our old high school friend Kelsey came up for the evening and we got to meet her fiance. It was good to see her, she hasn't changed much. I forgot all about taking pictures though, oops.

I did some research and I think that I would really like digital scrapbooking. I have narrowed it down to 4 programs that I am deciding between: iscrapbook, iremember, memory mixers, and my memories. Anyone know anything about those programs? Good or bad?

Andrew is still riding his bike to and from school everyday. And we are still running at least 3 times a week. We are up to about 5 miles or so now. We were going to run a 5K today, but they ended up charging for it and none of us wanted to pay to run. So our group of friends all just went for a run and then out to breakfast instead, it was wonderful!

Hope you are all out enjoying the sun!

Kitten Toys

Sometimes when we are buying cat food we feel nice and buy a new cat toy. We got this little knit monkey that was stuffed with catnip. I think Abbey liked it.

She let John look at it for about 2 minutes.

Andrew's Junior Trumpet Recital

Finally, the post about Andrew's recital. To start out with, none of us (me, my mom, or Lynne) were very good about taking pictures. I think we were all too nervous for him! Here are the few that we have! This is Andrew the week before his recital. I took his picture in his "recital clothes" so that we could send the picture to his parents for approval.
This is Lynne and Lisa waiting for the concert to start.
This is Andrew after the the concert.
And again, after the concert. Doesn't he look happy to be done?

And here is Andrew's recital, in the order that he played it. Enjoy!

This song is called Caprice for C Trumpet and Piano by Joseph Turrin. Michael Nutting is accompanying Andrew on the piano.

Part 1

Part 2
This song is really long and Youtube only allows 10 minute long videos. So you get part 1 and part 2. This song is called Concerto for Trumpet in Bb by Alexander Arutunian. Dainius Vaicekonis is accompanying Andrew on the piano.

This song is called The Hollow Men by Vincent Persechetti. Michael Nutting is accompanying Andrew on the organ.

This song is called Tony & the Elephant by William Schmidt and Andrew's friend Rusty Graeff is playing Tuba with him.

This song is called Perception and was arranged by Andrew and played with the 12 o'clock Jazz Band at Western.

He did a great job and we were all really proud of him! After it was over, he decided it was fun and he wanted to do another one!

Kabobs

We tried out our new (hand-me down) grill yesterday with our friends Matt and Vanessa. Andrew made Kabobs and they were delicious!
They looked even better after they were cooked! BBQs are definitely as sign that summer fun is on its way!
