Trout Lake

An old post I scrounged up, from the end of July.  I have no idea why I never finished this one, it took me all of 5 minutes to finish up.  It's funny to go back and look at pictures from 6 months ago!

Oh, my goodness. There are 218 pictures from our three day stay in Trout Lake. I waded through and picked my favorites, but I'm way too lazy to organize them for this post. So you get my favorites, with captions, in no particular order.

The two munchkins in the shade tent.  Notice that Scout doesn't have any pants on?   And that her shirt is way too big?  We forgot the bag with our swimming stuff in our Suburban, parked in front of the Bybee's.  Levi was kind enough to loan us a shirt and she didn't seem to notice she was missing her pants.

I know this is slightly blurry, but this is the face I see reaching for me a million times a day.  Love it.
On Tuesday (the 3rd), in the early evening, we left the Bybees’ with my parents and took a 5ish hour drive south to visit my sister Rachelle, her husband Taylor, and cousin Levi. They recently moved to Trout Lake, just across the Columbia from Hood River. Scout sat between Andrew and I (in the back seat) on the car ride down and for the first few hours of the drive she played fairly well. Then we took a short dinner break to stretch our legs, got her ready for “bed”, and she slept the rest of the drive (after about 20 minutes of fussing at Andrew and I). The drive went much more smoothly than I was anticipating.

Levi got a house (like Scout's) from my parents for his birthday.  It worked pretty well as a way to get away from the dogs.
Taylor and Rachelle live in a gorgeous area, with views of Mt. Hood and a VERY close up Mt. Adams, in an adorable old farmhouse. I’m completely jealous of everything but the heat. It was just too hot for our little ghosty pale family. Due to the heat, lovely nap schedules, and the fact that they live 30 minutes from anything, we didn’t make too many extravagant plans. We managed to have lots of fun though and managed to get a good mix of staying busy and laying around being very lazy and watching cousins play. Somehow we did find time to go to the beach, take a walk to the river, swim in the backyard pool, celebrate Scout’s birthday (more Elmo cupcakes!), and play a ridiculous late night games of Mexican Train. I wish that we lived closer and could play more often!

This is her I'm kind of needy face.
We spent Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday morning enjoying each other’s company and watching the cousins play. On Thursday, my Granny and Poppy drove over from Portland to spend the day with us. We don’t get many opportunities to see them so I am glad they were willing to make the drive to see us!

And this is Levi.  Looking adorable.  See any resemblance to our little one?

We plopped Scout down on the beach and she took right to the sand.

That box was meant for some play food.  But she really loves sitting in it.

P.S. Just in case you were worrying about Scout’s driving and sleeping situation, we left Trout Lake in the early evening, and the ride North went about the same as the ride South. A few hours of playing, a break for dinner and to get ready for “bed”, then falling asleep after 20-30 minutes of fussing. Do-able, I think we’ve figured out how to do a long drive!
